This is a re-issue of two of Mary Balogh’s best loved novels, together in one volume. Balogh makes you care for her characters so deeply and passionately. As always Mary Balogh proves to be a wonderful author and a great teller of character.
Anyway, I do not believe Mama would have come. So, the parents agree to meet with their daughter together to take measure of the situation. Indeed, one might even say it is our duty to enter the married state. The Notorious Rake – A much more difficult book to like. And I think I liked the idea of it more than I actually liked it except when the characters got out of their own way it was pretty good. Someone he would not quite want for his daughter, and yet someone he would not like to send packing because of his friend.
There are indeed two intertwined stories in A Counterfeit Betrothal, very different in their emotional level. This is really what I think of as a classic older Mary Balogh book.

Like I magy, anything good about this book was the humor. They decide to have a counterfeit betrothal in order to bring her parents Olivia and Marcus back together. He was the one who cheated but the way the heroine handled it made me feel sorry more to the hero than heroine, he love her terribly and tried but couldn’t stop loving her. They have a connecting theme is that one of the primary characters in the first story – the father of the bride- has been involved in a long term relationship with the heroine of the second story which ends at the successful collusion of the characters in the first book.
Francis is the only son still unmarried. And the characters’ development was either very slow and limited or marry totally non-existent. He and Lady go for a walk in the woods, flirt just a little, so far so good. He is stuck in betrothao holding pattern of pain and loss and counterfeeit bad responses to those things. Still they were both pretty good, it takes a good author to write two such different stories magy the same book. Other reviews may point out there are two relationships in this novel, one involving a daughter of estranged parents, who schemes to reunite them by undertaking a counterfeit betrothal to a rakish young man she’s known since childhood he was always stranding her to begrothal her off and go have fun with friends ; and a more complicated relationship between the parents, who parted badly over his one-time drunken betrayal of her with a whore during revelries prior to a friend’s marriage.

The Counterfeit Betrothal – Sophia wants to get her parents counterfei together. They are played for much needed comic relief with their bickering and constant harassment of each other. Whereas I vounterfeit Mary and grew to really like Edmund and could see them making it through the trials and tribulations of life, which is what I want from a love story!
Apparently she’s the only sexual partner in all his 15 years of raking that is truly passionate. This Lady is known to have been someone’s mistress, although everyone likes her anyway because she’s so sweet and charming. Still not credible, tho. They have both continued to love each other over the past 14 years but Marcus betrithal given up hope that his wife would see him or take him back.
Clifton would have an apoplexy. Her one desire is to reunite her parents, who have been estranged for fourteen years. What is the plan? I enjoyed their characters and all counterefit mischief they did as children and adult. And Olivia and Marcus don’t easily fall into Sophia’s plans either.
